U-Pick Rules:

When you get home:

How to pick strawberries:

  • Look under the leaves. Strawberries like to hide!
  • Pick ripe berries. Ones that have white tips are not quite ready and will not be as tasty as ones that are red all over.
  • Pick thoroughly. Small ripe berries are just as tasty (maybe even more tasty) as the big ones!
  • Find a posture that works for you. Some people like to stand, others like to kneel or sit.
  • Pick gently. Strawberries bruise easily.
  • Try to keep the stem on. This will help the berries last longer.
  • Grasp the stem and gently pull and twist.
  • Take breaks when you need them. Remember this should be fun!

How to pick Raspberries:

  • Pick only the berries that are fully red. Look under the leaves for hidden berries ready for harvest
  • Gently grasp the berry with your fingers and thumb, and tug gently.
  • If it is ripe, the berry will easily drop off in your hand, leaving the centre part attached to the stem.
  • Carefully place - don't throw - the berries into your containers.
  • Don't overfill your containers or try to push the berries down. Heaping Raspberries more than 3 inches deep will squish the bottom berries.
  • Avoid placing the picked berries in the sunshine any longer than necessary. It is better to put them in the shade after picking
  • Raspberries may be kept fresh in the refrigerator for two or three days
